Sharing My Knowledge In Science

In Te Maunga this week we had a visit from the Northland Science Roadshow.  We learnt about rockets, spectroscopy and water testing.  In rockets we learnt about methylated spirits.  We had to put the methylated spirits into the rocket and light a fire so it took off.  In spectroscopy we learnt about rainbows.  Did you know that the sun is white so the sun holds every colour.  In water testing we tested if water was healthy.  We had to put the chemical ammonia and nitrite into a glass bottle and see what colour it turns.  Do you like science as much as I do?

Cricket I’m Lovin It

In Te Maunga we have been learning about cricket.  I learnt about the grip that you need to hold the bat.  You have to make a v with your hands and bend down to pick up the bat.  We played non-stop cricket.  The batting team has to be in a line and run up to the wickets when the batter hits the ball.  The fielding team had to run after the ball and throw back to the bowler.

Science

On Friday the 24th of April we turned Ryan's bike upside down and then I started turning the pedals.  Ryan and Sophie keeped on bringing over stuff to cut on the wheel so I decied to see what broke and what didn't brake.  I also wanted to see the funny noises they made.  First I did a flower.  It didn't make any noises but the head did break off.  Next I tried a leaf.  The leaf made a funny noises but it only broke a little bit. After that I did a stick.  The stick made a funny noises but it only broke a little bit.  Next I did a peice of clay. It made a bit of a funny noise and it broke.  Lastly I did a scrubbing brush.  The brush didn't break or make a funny noise but it brushed all the dust off the wheel.  I learnt that soft things break easier than hard things.

Odd One Out

On Friday the 17th I made a 2x2 table with the numbers 9, 16, 25 and 43.  I also had this in my head which one is the odd one out to these questions: which one is a single number, which one is an even number, which ones are a square number and which one is a prime number.  First I looked up what a square and prime number is then I answered the questions. I know that nine is a single digit so I put that in the box. I also knew that nine is an odd number, lastly I had just learnt that nine is a square number. After I wrote that I moved on to the next number and answered the questions that were related to the problem.  After I answered all the numbers I checked through it and I was all done.

We got some milk and put some pepper in it then we put soap on our finger and put it in the milk and the pepper seemed to run away from our finger. Weird!
